about this personality

AFLAR proudly celebrates Professor Daiyabu Alhaji Ibrahim this October.

A pioneer in Nigerian rheumatology, Prof. Ibrahim has significantly contributed to advancing the field nationally and across Africa.

A graduate of the University of Maiduguri, he received his MBBS in 2000 and completed his fellowship with the West African College of Physicians (WACP) in 2010. His training, under mentors like Prof O. Adelowo and Prof G. Mody laid the foundation for his remarkable career.
Professor Ibrahim is a Professor of Medicine at Bayero University Kano (BUK) and the Chief Consultant Rheumatologist at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH). He leads a team of two rheumatologists at the fully accredited postgraduate training center, with four trainees at different stages of their education.

Prof Ibrahim established Northern Nigeria’s first rheumatology clinic at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital over 15 years ago and has expanded rheumatology services across various states, including Liberia.

He has played a key role in inspiring the younger generation of Nigerian rheumatologists by being the first Resident Doctor outside of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital to join the rheumatology training program under the mentorship of Prof O. O. Adelowo. He has inspired and trains the next generation of Nigerian rheumatologists, many of whom now work globally.

With over 70 peer-reviewed publications and active involvement in AFLAR’s research groups, Prof Ibrahim’s work continues to shape the future of rheumatology in Africa.

His leadership and dedication serve as an inspiration to all. He has held several key medical union positions, including 2nd Vice President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Secretary General of the Nigerian Society of Rheumatology (NSR), and currently serves as Secretary General of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN).
He is married and enjoys travelling.

AFLAR celebrates Prof Ibrahim’s immense contributions to healthcare and education across the continent.
